Today Nui went to the market early with our lovely guests Bradley and beth from the USA. At six o'clock they left home to visit a very local market with fresh local products. It is not difficult to find a market in or around Phangnga, you only need to know where they are... and a t what time!
Early morning, next to a rural temple and near a school is a small market in the fields. A lot of people like to buy and sell here: home grown, local, fresh, really nice. It is about 7 kms from Phangnga town. At the same time is the city-market in 'Old Town'. A very nice place with clean and good food, tables and vegetables. Friendly people all around and it is possible to see how the monks get their alms when they go round. A peaceful place! And that is not enough for the Monday: in the evening is a huge fresh market with see-food, clothes, fruit and all kind of sweets. This is also a often visited place. As their are enough markets on this day, two others cloth.... or at least most of them don't come to the 'hospital market' or evening market..... For the other days we can tell same-but-different-stories.
Today they came back with two bunches of fern and a huge banana flower. Of course there was a lot of other like fruit, fresh shrimps and vegetables, but those two items we have just finished in a delicious salad.
The inner part of the banana flower is cut in small tiny pieces. The fern was cut in 5-10 cm parts and was kept fresh during the day as we hold them like flowers in a vase. This salad was amazing!!
The bite had a mix of crispy, the fern was full of water and the combination was very nice. I never had thought about eating fern & bananaflower, but I can't be very surprised as Nui often cooks something special. We already had the leaves from the tree in the garden, a salad of lemon grass (also cut in very very small peices) and there will be more to come!!
Another nice dinner and evening has come to an end!
